THE QUIET NORTH SHORE
OF BIG BEAR LAKE

A morning worth the drive. Seven thousand feet up in Fawnskin, ringed by pines and still water — come for breakfast, stay for the lake.

We set up on the north shore, near Grays Hook Line ’n’ Dine in Fawnskin — away from the crowded village, right where the water goes glassy at sunrise and the eagles come out to fish.

Wildlife

Watch for eagles.

Bald eagles winter on Big Bear Lake, and the north shore is one of the best places to spot them — gliding low over the water, hunting the coves at dawn.

Bring binoculars, grab a lemonade, and keep an eye on the tree line. The morning quiet is part of the meal.
